Stopping ISIS Minus The War

Almost every week, you probably hear something about ISIS. You most likely heard about the Paris attacks and how refugees are leaving Syria and Iraq from war. But why is ISIS attacking? Well, they just want to attack. No other reason. These types of groups are the only reason that make other people think that all Muslims are war-loving freaks. But they’re not. I, myself, have many Muslim friends that are very kind and never dream of war. They even dream of stopping ISIS. But how can we stop ISIS without killing many innocent people, from our side and their side? Hi! I’m Ty Kennedy, and this is why we shouldn’t go to war.

HOW CAN WE STOP ISIS?

First off, we need to know a few things. Number one, ISIS is putting us in danger and, number two, fighting ISIS is too risky. There are even better ways to stop ISIS. We’ll get to that later. Let’s start off with number one first.

If we go to war, we are putting thousands of U.S. soldiers in danger of injury and even death. ISIS’s defense is too strong for us. We cannot set foot into Syria. Iran even warned the military by saying that they are going to “return to their country in a wooden coffin”. Starting a war would make it so that ISIS would target our country more than others. This would put our country at greater risk to live in and put U.S. citizens in danger. According to Phyllis Bennis, writer of Portside’s How To Combat ISIS Without War, war would kill hundreds of innocent Iraqi and Syrian citizens. Many people would be at risk of death from air strikes, grenades, guns, etc. Clearly, a war would kill and injure many innocent people.

Our military isn’t preparing well. ISIS could be stopped in one month, but the military is too scared. This means that the U.S. Military isn’t ready for war yet. ISIS has stronger defense than the U.S. Military does. This means soldiers have to prepare really well to fight ISIS. According to Nick Paton of CNN, “There is no easy answer to war.” War isn’t easy. War isn’t the greatest way to stop ISIS. But that leads to another question: What is?

There are better ways to stop ISIS. Dipping your toe in the water, similar to taunting ISIS, isn’t the best answer and is making the U.S. a bigger target. This means that taunting ISIS will make them mad and kill more people. ISIS shouldn’t be degraded, nor destroyed, but rather defeated. Max Boot of Newsweek states, “Impose a no-fly zone over part or all of Syria.” This means that less innocent people will be killed.

Some people think that ISIS can easily be beaten by war. Why? We have killed many ISIS members. However, there is a problem. We haven’t killed the strongest members of the team. ISIS is still hard to beat.

So, with all that said, we have to stop ISIS without starting a whole nother war like the one we are in. ISIS will makes us a bigger target, the military isn’t preparing well, and there are better ways to stop ISIS. To the military, don’t waste your time on war, try to do something else to stop ISIS. Take action and don’t post about starting wars on social media. Also, don’t vote for Donald Trump if he wants to start a war.
